An international team organized by CyArk, has completed a two week effort to do a complete 3D scan of the four most famous presidential heads. The project was accomplished with the use of five laser scanners, three different Leica Geosystems laser scanners, the ScanStation 2 for long-range shots, the HDS6100 for dense data capture at closer range, and the ScanStation C10. Three teams operated the scanners from locations at the base of the mountain and also climbed on top of the sculptures to shoot every necessary angle. The main goal of the project is to preserve cultural heritage by laser scanning, digital modeling and other state of the art technologies.
